Q: How much time do I have to be away from my office for these meetings?
A: None. Let’s consider three types of time:
Thus, "three hours per month" simply means three hours per month: one hour in a 1:1 (“one-to-one”) call with the group chair and two hours in a CEO peer group session.
Q: Why do you use the selection process described earlier on this site?
A: Here's the bottom line on how the selection process works: the selection interview serves, in part, as an opportunity for each candidate to get a deeper understanding of what it might mean to be invited into the group. That, in itself, answers many of the questions candidates have. And if, during the selection interview, the chair determines that a candidate may, in fact, be a good fit for the group, at that time it makes sense for us to take all the time we need to answer any questions you may have.
The selection process gives each candidate an opportunity to quickly gain a deep understanding of this group of no more than eight carefully selected CEOs in their own industry, while it gives us an opportunity to determine if they would receive value from, as well as provide value to, other participants in the group. It prevents each party from making a decision with insufficient information.
Q: This sounds a lot like other CEO and executive groups that have tried to recruit me. How is this different?
A: The groups we form and lead are unlike Vistage, YPO, BNI, YEC, EO, and other national or global CEO/executive/owner/entrepreneur organizations. Nor are they like programs presented by organizations such as the Center for Creative Leadership or the excellent programs presented by universities such as Harvard.
We've found that Bay Park Associates’ approach, carefully designed to overcome the limitations of other CEO peer groups, allows chief executives in the group to spend time focused on their own specific issues, within their own specific industry, without being burdened with travel and interference from other commitments. Monthly contact gives CEOs continuity in dealing with long-term challenges. The group exists solely for the direct benefits to its participants, and for the indirect benefits to their organizations and other stakeholders.
We offer no training. A CEO seeking training to address an opportunity or problem is probably seeking the wrong solution too late. Rather than training, we provide real-time insights and proven processes for addressing challenging situations.
Q: Who’s in the group now?
A: Each group is extremely confidential, with the identities of the participants and the issues they address kept strictly within the group. The only way to learn the identities of the participants (and of their companies/institutions) is to be invited to participate, and then to actually participate in, the group.
Should you decide to enter the selection process, we’ll notify current participants of your interest. If any of those CEOs express concern about your subsequently being invited to participate, we'll discuss it with that CEO and, if necessary, with you. Current participants have no control over selection, though they may provide us with information to consider as a candidate progresses through the selection process.
You’re the CEO.
